Noch ein Nachzüglerbild von Weihnachten :D

Am Tag vor Silvester sind wir alle zusammen nach Stowe gefahren. Trinka war mit den Kids im Spa und ich bin snowboarden gewesen. Es war mega gutes Wetter, aber es war richtig kalt. Deswegen habe ich auch nur einmal Bilder gemacht, sonst wären meine Hände nämlich abgefroren :D Das ist aber mal ein richtiges Skigebiet zur Abwechslung gewesen, mit einer Hütte oben und diesen Piepdingern, durch die man am Lift durchgeht, sodass man seinen Pass einfach nur einstecken haben muss. Bei Bolton muss man den immer zeigen, das ist richtig nervig. 

An Silvester waren wir Mittags alle zusammen bei Circus Smirkus, in Burlington ist an Silvester tagsüber immer sowas das heißt First Night und da sind dann so ganz viele Sachen für Kinder, unter anderem eben der Zirkus und dann danach waren wir noch bei sowas, wo die Masken basteln konnten.

Abends waren die Kinder dann mit der Oma und ich hatte frei, ich habe erst noch Trinka und Mark gefahren, die sind nur zu Freunden essen gegangen und ich bin dann zu Kathi, die hatte ihre Kids und dann waren wir bei ihr zuhause. Haben den Balldrop in New York geschaut.

Das neue Jahr habe ich dann erst mal krank im Bett gestartet, das war super :D 

Ich weiß nicht, ob ich von dem Haus schonmal erzählt habe, aber bestimmt :D Es ist ein blinkendes Weihnachtshaus und das erste Mal, als ich vorbeigefahren bin wusste ich das nicht und habe mich so erschreckt und war so geblendet, dass ich fast in den Graben gefahren bin :D

Da waren wir skaten auf unserer Eislaufbahn im Garten.

Irgendwann waren wir Mädels Nachtskifahren und es war richtig kalt und irgendwie hat man das auf dem Berg nicht so gemerkt, aber auf jeden Fall hat ein Schneesturm angefangen und es hat ziemlich lange gedauert, bis wir wieder zuhause waren, wiel man nichts gesehen hat und es so glatt war. Man siehts auf dem Video nicht so gut, aber es hat richtig viel geschneit und auf der Straße waren überall so Schneeschwaden.

Irgendwann waren wir auch noch Rollschuh fahren, es gibt jetzt so eine neue Halle bei uns in der Nähe und das ist total cool, ich war vorher noch nie auf Rollschuhen, immer nur Rollerblades und das war am Anfang richtig schwierig und ich bin voll oft hingefallen :D

Letzte Woche hat Yana entschieden, dass sie nach Hause möchte. Sie hatte schon immer Probleme mit der Hostmom, weil die irgendwie nie mit ihr geredet hat und irgendwann haben sie  dann einen unerzogenen Welpen bekommen, auf den sie immer aufpassen musste, weil der sonst alles kaputt gemacht hat und sie mag Hunde eh nicht so und jetzt hat sie das alles nicht mehr ausgehalten, weil sie sich eben hier auch nicht aufgenommen gefühlt hat von der Familie und jetzt ist sie am letzten Mittwoch wieder nach Deutschland geflogen.

Am Montag hat dann endlich wieder unsere Routine und die Schule angefangen, wurde langsam mal wieder Zeit!

Da haben sie gemalt, wie zwei unschuldige Lämmchen. Wenn sie nur immer so wären... :D

Elena Heil cares for eight year old twin boys in Burlington, Vermont. Elena is our fifth au pair – we have had wonderful experiences will all our au pairs, but Elena is a truly extraordinary young woman. From the moment she arrived in Burlington, Vermont from Frankfurt Germany, Elena has embraced our family, and the Vermont environment with enthusiasm, and a zest for life that is contagious and fills our home and family with joy. She is a great combination of someone who is calm, organized and responsible, but also spontaneous and adventurous. She has seemingly unlimited positive energy as she gracefully handles the transitions of the boys’ multiple activities and schedules. Our boys are not perfect, and Elena goes with the flow and has an incredible sense of humor, which helps us all deal with the stress of daily life in a busy household and world. Whether it is lacing up hockey skates, tying a Tai Kwan Do Belt, or helping with musi cal instruments and homework, Elena is there for our boys as a patient guide and mentor. Elena puts the boys’ safety and wellbeing first and has created a learning environment at the house involving games and activities that are fun and engaging alternatives to electronics. When we are not there, we know that Elena cares for the twins as we would. One of our twins has been struggling with school and Elena has stepped in as a patient tutor and is making a big difference in his ability to succeed at school. Elena’s caring spirit extends to our family pets as well -- including our ten year old golden retriever, our cat and newest pet, “Spike” a crested gecko. Despite the multi tasking required with the twins’ activities, Elena finds time to proactively think of things both big and small that will make our lives easier. As an example of her thoughtfulness, over the holidays, she voluntarily detailed our cars! Her willingness to try new things has enhanced her au pair experience as well as our true admiration for her. She has tried sailing, paddle boarding, ice skating, roller skating, cross country skiing (classical and skate!), and yoga for the first time while she’s been here. She is also improving her snowboarding and alpine skiing talents when she is off duty. She is volunteering at a horse stable locally so that she can continue to ride horses, one of her passions she brought with her from Germany. Elena took a difficult law class at a local college and successfully did all the readings and assignments, we have no doubt that Elena will succeed at whatever she puts her mind to in the future (she hoped to be a lawyer) . Elena is a good friend to her fellow au pairs and takes time to travel and experience her US “bucket list.” Over Christmas, she hosted a cookie party for other au pairs and served fondue to remind them of a European Christmas. For fun, we visited NYC and Montreal with Elena and the twins and on both our visits, it poured rain the whole day (cats and dogs!) however, Elena’s smile and positive attitude made it seem like the sun was shining. Elena is included in all our family celebrations and she has become a beloved member of our extended family by all of our friends, neighbors and family members. We feel we have hit the jackpot by having Elena as an au pair and part of our extended family -- she brings warmth and sunshine into our lives, even on the coldest of Vermont days.
